about yoga and ayurveda

Yoga, more than just physical postures, it is a path toward "unity," which is the direct translation of the word. Through its practice, we unlock a treasure trove of benefits – heightened range of motion, increased strength and flexibility, and inner peace of the mind, body and spirit. This retreat invites you to delve into the essence of yoga philosophy, where ancient wisdom intertwines seamlessly with modern life, guiding us on and off the mat. Discover how the principles of yoga transcend the confines of our physical space, enriching every facet of our existence. Yoga embraces all bodies, transcending notions of proficiency or experience; it simply is, a realm where acceptance reigns and each individual finds a space to become whole.

Guided by the ancient Ayurvedic proverb, "Without proper diet, medicine is of no use. With proper diet, medicine is of no need," we honor the profound connection between nourishment and well-being. Ayurveda is rooted in a legacy spanning over 5,000 years. At the retreat, we'll take on a gradual yet impactful path, integrating a few essential steps to restore balance within our bodies trusting that Ayurveda is a holistic sanctuary for well-being. As Ayurveda and yoga converge, their symbiotic dance becomes evident in the mindful choices we make, from the sustenance we consume to the rituals that fortify us. Together, we'll unveil the intricate threads weaving us together, honoring our bodies as sacred temples.

food philosophy

Food is an integral part of the retreat experience and we take great care to ensure the food we serve aligns with the values we will be embodying throughout the retreat. Our food philosophy is rooted in Ayurveda's principles, emphasizing the importance of the three doshas – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha – to guide our meal planning, ensuring that every bite nurtures both physical and spiritual well-being.

  • Vegetarian diet

  • Ingredients from local farmers' markets or our very own Pura Veda's permaculture farm

  • Strong connection with the earth and the community

  • Silent eating during breakfast

  • Mindful eating creates a heightened awareness of taste, texture, and nourishment

  • Gratitude for the abundance that nature provides.

"I am so incredibly grateful for the experience I had at the Retreat. The word I continue to describe it as is MAGICAL. And that’s even an understatement. We not only learned about yoga, philosophy, how to move and nourish our bodies, meditation and Ayurvedic practices, we learned so much about ourselves and how we can take these powerful practices and easily place them into our every day lives. I felt rejuvenated, rested and nourished when I returned home, more myself than I ever have after a weekend getaway or any vacation could ever provide. I can’t recommend Summer’s retreats enough! I am hooked and can’t wait for the next one! Thank you Summer and all the facilitators who made Sacred Sunshine Retreat such an incredible and special experience for us all."
